Although considered local Royal Cornwall is a 2 hour drive and so requires leaving home at 4! Two days running!!! This year we took both lorries, one with the youngsters and one with the mare and foal. To date this was our best show so far. Karen's filly by POD won her Small Hunter class to start the day. then Di's 2 year old filly maintained her winning run by winning the 2 year filly class. Stephen's Trenavey Cry Freedom by Liberator then won her mixed 3 year old class. our young 'Kings Master' mare then rounded up the tally by winning her class too. This mare has matured beyond recognition over the winter and I was delighted for her to stand Reserve Champion. Tawstock Fedora's win put her in the running for the Three Shows Challenge. This trophy is presented in memory of the West Country's leading showman Douglas Kellow and is awarded to the most consistant horse in the Hunter younstock classes at Devon County, Bath and West and Royal Cornwall. I'm delighted to say that she did in fact win it. Delighted in many ways as not only was Douglas a mentor of mine he was also a great friend to Di's father Morley and this is the first year that I've been able to produce a horse that Di bred in her own right and that carries her fathers prefix. Chips{Trenavey Cry Freedom} was reserve. Day two, another early start, saw Jane Ellis's three year olds stand first and second in the three year old hack class and Evening Chorus by Daws Firebird then stood second in a very strong part-bred Arab class. Hazel Tolchard's filly by No Submission stood a very commendable 3rd in the small hack 2 year old class being the highest placed filly. |
