Exford
2009
The day after Wincanton is Exford. Right in the top of Exmoor this fantastic rural show has some of the strrongest hunter classes of the season both numerically and with quality. As Great Yorkshire is, for us, the best of the County Shows Exford is pretty darn close to the very best of the one day circuit. Coogee Bay {Dessie} had her 2nd outing and stood top of a very good Broodmare class. Alice Payne's foal won the foal class with Dessie's foal 2nd. Alice is a great friend of ours and lives in Buckinghamshire and has sent her mare and foal to us to do a couple of shows to educate the foal. Such is the draw of Exford Show that mares come from far and wide. My hack mare donned her plain browband and became a small hunter for the day and won her class. In fact she more than qualifies as a hunter as she carried the Secretary of the Devon and Somerset Stag Hounds for many seasons and that was why we took her 'home' to Exmoor for the day. Lislan Bay Hope completed the team. She started the season as a small hunter 3 year old but has now grown too much and so had to take on the open class. She held her own and won the class. Dessie then stood Champion with Hope as Reserve. In the Supreme Dessie beat all the other section Champions and stood Supreme Champion, her second Supreme in as many outings. 7 horses, 4 wins, 3 2nds, 1 Champion, 1 Res Champion, 1 Supreme.
