The Royal
2009
Sadly this year was the last Royal as we have known it for decades. In years gone by The Royal used to move around the country and in about 1952 it was held at Stover just a couple of mile from Langaller. In the '80's we used to show cattle at Stoneleigh and then laterly of course have shown horses. This year the show had phenominal support from the farming industry and it was lovely to see the cattle and sheeps barns full again. Of course last year we were still under the restrictions of 'Blue-tongue' as well as the on going TB debacle and the livestock entries were very low. However a depleted team set forth to Warwickshire, just Hovis and Connie {Trenavey Consent}. Connie enjoyed her day out and moving swiftly on so did Hovis. This 3 year old is so consistant and I was thrilled for him to stand 2nd in a very strong class of geldings, beaten by the Champion who was also Champion at Devon County and attained his Cuddy ticket there. For such a big horse, Hovis will make the most lovely middleweight and he is so loose in his movement that he should give the most comfortable of rides.
