A some-what depleted team set off for Three Counties at Malvern. Euphoria wasn't quite back to form and Big BIrd is still awaiting her debut in the ring and so no mares and foals attended. Take The Biscuit {Hovis} was sole representative and thankfully went one step better than at Bath and Wet, sorry West, by winning the 3 year old gelding class and going on to take the youngstock and then the overall Championship beating the Broodmare Champion. This sent him forward for his first Cuddy competition on Sunday. For the benefit of the spectators the show has installed a massive screen onto which the activity of the ring is shown to improving the viewing. Good plan except when you have a 'Hovis' who is afraid of his own shadow and the sight of himself in glorious technecolour 80 feet in the air was whey too scary. Had there been a prize for cantering backwards whislt your handler does an impression of flying a kite in a forse 10 gale then we'd have won hands down! The second member of team 'Langaller' was Jane Ellis's Evening Chorus. By Daws Firebird, this filly has matured in stature and mind. This was her first overnight stay away from home and she took all in her stride. Unforunately the hack 2 year olds have to compete in the same class as the 3 year olds but we were more than happy to stand 5th as she was the highest placed 2 year old. She is such a lovely filly, I am sure next year she will be one to follow. Equally exciting for Langaller was the Champion of the Irish Draft section was a strapping 2 year old pure ID gelding by our Sandy's Light. |
